Winners 2019l-r: Veteran, Minor, Worcestershire, Women’s and Senior champions
Jeremy (Shirley & Wythall) won all 4 contested games and took a half-point bye in the third round. The crunch game was in round 4 when he faced Peter Kitson (Worcester), but uncharacteristically Peter made a serious error that cost him his queen. Jeremy’s final game was against new player Matthew Holmes (Worcester) who put up tough resistance. He finally succumbed when Jeremy exchanged down to a won ending correctly calculating that none of a chain of passed pawns could be promoted before Jeremy's extra piece could mate his opponent. Julie Wilson (Stourbridge) reatined her women’s title, as did Brian Turner (Malvern) for the veteran title. Both players scored 3½ points. Senior champion was Peter Kitson and Minor champion (u130) was Matthew Holmes, both on 3 points.
l-r: Veteran and Senior champions dicuss their game; Worcestershire Women's champion in play; Nick Followfield and Minor champion face off in round 5.
