2025 Congress makes MCCU and Worcestershire Chess History

Tournament Director Scott Oxtoby (Worcester) initiated a new era with an experimental format squeezing in three rounds into Saturday without encroaching too much into the evening and two rounds on Sunday.

Worcestershire crowned its first female individual champion WGM Kata Toma who also becomes the first international titled player to enter the county’s closed congress.

It is believed that Kata is also the first female individual champion of any MCCU county association formed in the 1890s.
