2nd Worcester Open 2010The second Annual Worcestershire Chess Congress on 24-25 July attracted 110 players from across the country and beyond. This was a huge increase on entries for the inaugural congress in 2009, delighting the organisers and ensuring that the event will continue to attract players to the county for years to come. Each year, the organisers promise to donate profits from the event to a charity. This year's charity was the St Mary's Hospice in Birmingham. The hospice cares for over 1,000 people each year with life-limiting illnesses such as Cancer, Motor Neurone Disease and Multiple Sclerosis. The charity will benefit to the tune of at least £500 as a result of the 2010 congress. Hungry chess players also provided extra custom for a local barbecue just round the corner from the university on Saturday in support of St Richard's Hospice, Worcester. Andy Moore was ably assisted in controlling the tournament by Colin Reed, Matthew Carr and Andrew Farthing.
