News

12 May 2026. South Birmingham and Warley Quinborne share the lead of Division 3 with 11 match points each.

6 May 2026. Kidderminster and Oscott completed the last Division 2 fixture of the season with a win and become runners up to SB Dudley Boyz. Meanwhile Division 3 is a close race between SB and Kynoch.: Both these teams have 10 match points with SB slightly ahead on game points. With one fixture to play each, Kynoch have perhaps the easier task

15 Apr 2026. SB Dudley Boyz make sure of the Division 2 title with a clean sweep win against Kinver. The Boyz are now 5 points clear of second placed Kidderminster who have two fixtures remaining.

Paul Sharratt

10 Feb 2026. It is with sadness I report the sudden and unexpected passing of Paul Sharratt (Kinver) President of the league since 2018. Paul was also CEO of the Midland Counties Chess Union, general secretary of Worcestershire Chess Association, Safeguarding officer for the English Chess Federation and for many years he was a senior officer and team captain of Stourbridge Chess Club.
The funeral is to be held at 11:30am on Wednesday 25th March 2026 service at St Peter's Church, Kinver

10 Jan 2026. Young league player Preesh Gandhi (South Birmingham) played in the Warwickshire Junior Open tournament. Preesh finished with 3 points.

1 Sep 2025 Warley Quinborne enter team in Division 3

7 August 2025, John Fahy reports. Eleven teams enter League and Kinver CC admitted to the League.. The AGM re-elected President (Paul Sharratt), Secretary and Treasurer (John Fahy). The ratings boundaries for the leagues were retained: Division 2 maximum 1800, and Division 3 1600. Competition rule 4 was amended to take account of a club with two teams in the same division. Division 2 entries are: Kiddermister, Kinver, Oscott and South Birmingham and these teams will play each other home and away. Division 3 comprises: Halesowen A, Halesowen B, Kidderminster, Kynoch, Mercia, South Birmingham, Stourbrdge and will play a single round.
