League team competitions

 

1 Sep 2024. Fifteen standardplay teams and eight rapidplay teams compete in this season’s competitions. Stourbridge withdrew from the rapidplay league.

25 Jun 2024. The Annual General Meeting of the association agreed to organise two team rapidplay tournaments in 2024-5. The existing rapidplay league would continue and a second for players rated below 1650 will be set up to provide more opportunities for Worcestershire players to engage in quick play league chess. There were two proposals to alter the Championship League. The proposal to make the Championship league a competition for teams of six players received no support and was withdrawn. The second proposal to harmionise the time control to 45+30 for all matches was accepted.

Championship League - Redditch overtake Worcester

6 Dec 2024. Christmas came early for Longbrisge who notched up a convincing away victory over Malvern to put them second in the table.

27 Nov 2024. Halesowen hold Kidderminster to a draw in the match at Kidderminster to score a match point and Kidderminster jump into third place in the table.

8 Nov 2024. Malvern drew the home fixture with Kidderminster

30 Oct 2024. Redditch beat Worcester to go top of the champikonship table. Worcester’s lower boards earned well fought draws against higher rated opponents.

28 Oct 2024. Malvern were back to championship form cruising to victory in their away match with Halesowen.

23 Oct 2024. Redditch beat Longbridge to catch up with Worcester.

17 Oct 2024. Longbridge beat league leaders at Worcester to go second in the table.

11 Oct 2024. Redditch travelled to Malvern for their first Championship fixture and saw off last season’s championship team.

9 Oct 2024. Kidderminster and Worcester fought an evenly balanced match. Worcester struck first when his Ray Collett won on time in an equal position. The last game to finish also saw a Worcester win. On board 1, Stephen Mellor was a pawn up in a complex Q and minor piece ending. Joe Friar had an advanced passed pawn, but his king was exposed enabling Stephen to win more pawns.

2 Oct 2024. Although a player short, Longbridge drew with Kidderminster.

12 Sep 2024. Worcester had a home win against Halesowen in the first Championship fixture.

1 Sep 2024. Six teams entered this competition: Halesowen, Kidderminster, Longbridge, Malvern, Redditch, and Worcester City. Teams are of five players and there are no rating restrictions. The time control is 45+30. Teams play each other home and away with most matches starting at 7:30pm. Longbridge home fixtures start earlier at 7:15pm.

23 Nov 2024,. Although a player down, Redditch won their away fixture against Malvern. Redditch will go into the New year clear favourites to win the Challengers League having beaten the other three teams

21 Nov 2024. The Longbridge team out-rated Worcester and won their home match.

14 Nov 2024. Worcester Rooks defeated Malvern at Worcester.

31 Oct 2024. Redditch continued their fine form by beating Longbridge in their second away fixture.

19 Sep 2024. In the first Challenger’s match of the season, Redditch beat Worcester away.

1 Sep 2024. Fou teams entered. Teams have four boards where the the players on boards 2, 3 and 4 have original August 2024 ECF ratings below 1850. There is no rating restriction for players on board 1. Time control is 45+30. Teams have fixtures with each other home and away and most matches start at 7:30pm. Longbridge home matches start earlier at 7:15pm.

5 Dec 2024. Stourbridge go back into second place with an away win at Worcester.

4 Dec 2024. Kidderminster consolidated their lead of the league by beating Longbridge at home.

27 Nov 2024. Kidderminster, playing away, defeat Redditch. They now go to the top of the table because an appeal against Stourbridge for playing an incorreect board order in the match held on 6 Nov resulted in the match score being adjusted in favour of Kidderminster. The actual result of the game stands for ratings of the two players concerned.

6 Nov 2024. Stourbridge go to the top of the table after their away match win against Kidderminster.

16 Oct 2024. Redditch opened their account with a home win against leaders Worcester Bishops.

10 Sep 2024. Stourbridge got off to a faultless start to the season with a 4-0 away victory over Redditch. Mean while Worcestr Bishops chalked up their first win beating Longbridge away.

1 Sep 2024. Four teams entered: Kidderminster, Longbridge, Redditch and Worcester. Teams are of four players with original August 2024 ECF ratings below 1650. Time control is 45+30. Rapidplay League 1 - Redditch lead into the New Year, but Longbridge snapping at heels

28 Nov 2024. Longbridge won both legs of their away fixture against Worcester Knights and jump into second place.

31 Oct 2024. Worcester and Kidderminster fought draws in both legs of the fixture at Worcester.

24 Oct 2024. Redditch played away again, but against Worcester Knights. Both first and second matches were drawn.

11 Sep 2024. Redditch played a second away rapidplay fixture, this time awy to Kidderminster losing the first leg and drawing the second.

5 Sep 2024. Longbridge and Redditch played the first league fixture in the 2024-5 season.

7 Nov 2024. Longbridge and Worcester had two drawn matches in their fixture at Longbridge.

30 Oct 2024. Kidderminster in their home fixture against Longbridge scored two match wins confirming their leadership of the league.

3 Oct 2024. Longbridge and Redditch fought two draws in their fixture at Longbridge.

26 Sep 2024. In the first match of the new league Kidderminster crushed Worcester Pawns. Their young captain Cameron was delighted with the flying start to his team’s season.

Wheatley Cup Competition - Entries invited soon

Controller Ray Collett will invite entries to this competition later in the season. This team handicap tournament has teams of four players and teams with higher rated players are handicapped. Time control is 45+30. Players should be registered with the controller and player ratings are based on the ECF original standardplay list at the start of the competition. Where a player does not have a K or A rating, the controler will consult the WCA rating officer to allocate a rating for this competition.

Summer Cups Competitions 2025

Towers Cup for open teams

Controller Dan Lambourne will invite entries from clubs the new year. Teams are of four players. Time control is 45+30. The format will be either a two-round jamboree or a knock-out competition depending on the number of team entries. Players should be registered with the controller and player ratings are based on the ECF original standardplay list at the start of the month of the competition.
